Home birth midwifery for families in Charles, St. Mary's, Calvert and Southern Prince George's counties
SoMD Midwifery offers home birth midwifery care in Southern Maryland. Your midwife is with you through pregnancy, labor, birth and the weeks after, in your home. We serve Charles, St. Mary's, Calvert and Southern Prince George's counties in Maryland, and King George County in Virginia.
What home birth care includes
Home Birth Care is $4,500 and includes: 15 prenatal visits, in your home or at our home office (the number depends on when care starts); initial labs; full clinical midwifery labor and birth support; a birth assistant; lab draws and ultrasound orders; 4 postpartum visits; newborn metabolic screening and newborn critical congenital heart defect (CCHD) screening; a birth pool (the liner is bought separately).
What costs extra
Some costs are not in the fee: extra labs, ultrasounds, insurance verification and claims, a birth kit and non-routine medications.
Home birth and insurance
We work with Artemis Billing, a third-party biller that checks your benefits and handles billing. Insurance cannot be billed until after your baby is born. The full fee is paid by 36 weeks, and you are reimbursed whatever your insurance pays afterward.
Where we serve
We see families in Charles, St. Mary's, Calvert and Southern Prince George's counties in Maryland, and in King George County in Virginia. Your midwife is licensed in both Maryland and Virginia.
Support before and after the birth
Many families add a doula, a postpartum doula or nutrition counseling to their care. Placenta encapsulation is $375.
Questions families ask
1. How do we start? Book a free discovery call. It's 30 minutes, and you can ask anything about care.
2. Can I switch to you during pregnancy? Many families do. Whether it works depends on your medical history and how far along you are, so ask on the discovery call.
3. Does insurance pay for a home birth? It depends on your plan. Artemis Billing checks your benefits, and any reimbursement comes after the birth.
4. Do we need a doula? We encourage first-time parents to hire one. A doula gives emotional support that helps families have a successful home birth.
